Activity Stream Setup in Bitrix24
The activity stream is the first thing an employee sees when logging into Bitrix24. And usually it's chaos: birthday congratulations mixed with work announcements, system alerts about tasks, messages from groups where the employee doesn't participate. After a week, the stream becomes noise that everyone ignores. The result: important company news gets lost, and employees don't even open the section. Here's how to make it work.
What Is the Activity Stream?
The activity stream—the corporate news feed inside Bitrix24. It's not a chat or task tracker—it's a channel for announcements, discussions, and updates. It includes:
- Messages from employees and leadership
- System notifications (tasks, approvals, CRM events)
- Posts in work groups
- Poll results, thanks, announcements
Filtering and Message Types
The first step: organize. Bitrix24 lets you filter the stream by message type:
- Announcements—important news from leadership. Display with priority, can be pinned to the top.
- Messages—regular posts from employees.
- System—notifications about tasks, business processes, CRM. Can be moved to a separate tab or hidden from the main stream.
- Polls—built-in tool for quick votes.
- Thanks—public appreciation for a colleague.
We configure default message types: what employees see when they open the stream. Recommendation: show announcements and messages by default, move system notifications to a separate tab.
Department and Group Streams
Each work group and department has its own stream. This is key segmentation:
- Sales stream—plans, results, process changes. Seen only by the sales team.
- Project group stream—discussions, files, decisions. Seen by group members.
- Company stream—announcements for all: schedule changes, corporate news, new hires.
Subscriptions are individual. An employee can unsubscribe from a group stream they don't participate in and subscribe to another department's stream if they need information.
Mentions and Notifications
The @mention mechanic works like in chat: @John Smith sends a notification to that person, @Marketing Department to the whole department.
Notification settings:
- Push notifications—for new announcements, mentions, comment replies
- Email digest—daily or weekly summary for those who rarely visit Bitrix24
- Quiet mode—disable notifications for specific groups or message types
Pinned Messages and Important Announcements
A director publishes an order—within an hour it's buried under congratulations. Solution: pinning: fix the message to the top and it stays there until unpinned.
For critical announcements, use "Important Message" mode—Bitrix24 requires every employee to click "Read." The director sees who's reviewed it and who hasn't.
What We Configure
- Stream structure: company stream, department streams, project group streams
- Filters by message type: what's visible by default, what's hidden
- Posting rules: who can post to the company stream, who to their group only
- Notifications: push, email digest, quiet mode settings
- Welcome message template for new employees
- Leadership training: pinning, important messages, department mentions
